Meet the team
Dr Martin Lenz BVSc, BSc(Vet)
Tasracing Chief Veterinary and Animal Welfare Officer
Dr Lenz is a highly experienced and well credentialled regulatory veterinarian, having worked in equine veterinary practice in Australia and the United Kingdom, and as a racing vet at the Singapore Turf Club. Most recently, he served six years as the Director of Veterinary Services and Animal Welfare at the Queensland Racing Integrity Commission, and prior to that at Racing Queensland from 2007. His appointment at Tasracing commenced in January 2023.
As inaugural Chief Veterinary and Animal Welfare Officer within Tasracing, Dr Lenz plans to meet the organisation’s animal welfare objectives through lifetime traceability, injury monitoring and minimisation and rehoming programs.
Dr Lenz will provide animal welfare policy and regulatory advice to Tasracing and the Tasmanian racing sector. In the OTT space, he already implemented a number of additional initiatives to further develop and strengthen the existing program.
Regularly seen donning his gumboots and tassie-tux (puffer jacket), he is active at race meetings, visiting agricultural shows and equestrian club events, and getting among the Tasmanian equine community – both human and animal. In his spare time, he may be spotted ‘in the wild’ enjoying the Tasmanian bush, sea and wilderness.
